Cazacu

Origin 
A similar 250-year old tree on its own roods was found in 1965 by an experimental research group of the Institute of Horticulture and Food Technologies of the Republic of Moldova, the variety being registered in 2006.

Variety Characteristics 
The tree grows up rapidly, reaching impressive sizes, long-lived and resistant to frost, droughts and maladies. It enters its vegetation during the middle periods. Female flowers start blooming 5-6 days earlier than the male flowers. The harvest is rich and constant. The kernel is of high quality.

Tree 
At the age of 40 years the tree reaches a height of 18 meters and more, having a straight trunk with the diameter of circa 65 cm.
Crown – spherical oblong, dense, impressive.
Scaffold branches – long and dense, with superficial cracks, grey-white coloured.
Offshoots – long and thick, green-brown coloured.

Fruit 
Size – medium, having H = 42,0 mm, D = 31,5 mm; d = 33,5 mm, the fruit average weight – 11,0 grams.
Shape – large ellipsoidal, flat cross-section, round-shaped base, perpendicular aperture relatively large. Fascicules well clustered with a slightly sharp top.
Endocarp – thin, slightly corrugated surface, brownish-gray coloured. The halves connection is not evident.
Kernel – large of straw colour. It can be easily separated from the shell.
Maturity/Harvest – middle of September.
